New Yorkers March For Gay Marriage Rights

(New York City) More than 2,000 New Yorkers staged a protest march across the Brooklyn Bridge Sunday to demand the right for same-sex couples to marry in the Empire State.

Many of the marchers wore signs on their backs bearing numbers representing each of the 1,838 state and federal rights denied to gay couples unable to marry. Others were dressed in wedding garb.

The word "family" is generally reserved for that "group" which has the obligation of the race to create children, the word "marriage" has been defined even more strictly as that "legal agreement" much like a "partnership agreement" that society recognizes as an agreement which has special importance in assuring the future existence of the race -- or the society.

Many of the marchers wore signs on their backs bearing numbers representing each of the 1,838 state and federal rights denied to gay couples unable to marry. Others were dressed in wedding garb.

The protest stretched for more than a mile.

"We pay taxes. We're good citizens. "We need to be treated equally," said City Councilwoman Margarita Lopez (D-Manhattan) who marched with her partner Francisca Rivera.

Three suits have been launched in New York challenging the state's ban on same-sex marriage. (story) Among the couples involved in the litigations is the brother of Rosie O'Donnell, York State Assemblyman Danny O'Donnell and his partner John Banta.

The mayor of the village of New Paltz began marrying gay and lesbian couples soon after San Francisco issued its first marriage licenses to same-sex couples in February (story) West was later charged and blocked by a court order preventing him from performing more weddings.

Two Unitarian ministers then began performing the weddings. When they too were charged they continued the practice.

Sunday's march was organized by Marriage Equality New York and other activist groups. It started at Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn and ended at Battery Park in Manhattan.

Many of the couples at today's march were not gay, a point emphasized by Freedom to Marry's Evan Wolfson.

"The transformation we achieved [in Massachusetts] on May 17 shows us what's possible and seeing so many people take action today underscores the need for each of us to reach out to non gay people and ask them to support marriage equality."

It is clear from the US Constitution that no State may make any law affecting the right of contract.  It is clear that any two persons can form a partnership, or even more than two persons, for any legal purpose.

It is not illegal for two men, or two women, or any other "group" to reside in either the same house or the same bed.  Whether two men, or two women, or any other arrangement, become involved in some sort of sexual activity there isn't much of either public or legal attention on that activity -- as long as it doesn't happen in a way that violates public decency standards.

Every little piece of society has a fundamental urge to project itself into the future with children -- so the "family" is that special name given to the "group" of people (usually two) who have the obligation of the race, or that part of society, to procreate and raise children as the future generations which allow the race or the society to survive on through time.

The word "family" is generally reserved for that "group" which has the obligation of the race to create children, the word "marriage" has been defined even more strictly as that "legal agreement" much like a "partnership agreement" that society recognizes as an agreement which has special importance in assuring the future existence of the race -- or the society.

It is easy to end a business partnership -- both parties agree and it is done!  Society has made it difficult to end a marriage relationship -- recognizing that the "marriage" has the special obligation not only to procreate, but to care for children until some age of adulthood -- not only to feed and clothe them, but to set their feet firmly on a path of moral behavior.

It would be wrong to say that, "Gays are responsible for the moral decline in society," but it would not be wrong to say that, "There is moral decline in society."  The statistics on divorce, crime, corporate fraud, war and any of the other attributes of immorality are on the ascendancy.

There is a legitimate question as to WHO or WHAT is responsible for this decline in morality -- but all such individual pieces of this decline have the same final result -- the demise of the race.

In this sense "gay marriage" assures the demise of the race -- should gay marriage become the norm.

In the same sense, a single criminal hardly seems to threaten the future of the race, but a society composed of mostly criminals could not long survive.  Certainly it would be possible for a "gay couple" to adopt, or otherwise "acquire" a child to be raised to adulthood, but if "gay marriage" were accepted as the "norm" there would be no children to adopt, and the demise of the race.

Who or What is the source for the moral decline on the planet?  That is a very useful question for those interested in morals, but we can disagree with "marriage" between gays while agreeing that they may have "partnerships" that do not participate in the legal rights afforded to the "special partnership" called a marriage.
